Joey Graceffa - Don't Wait - Review and Explanation
First of all... I LOVE IT SO MUCH!!!
I can declare that I am officially obsessed with this song. I know this because over the past two days i have listened to it on repeat (this will continue no doubt) and I have also added it to my Spotify playlist that I listen to everyday.
Video Explanation
Throughout the video we get transferred from the real world to a fantasy world multiple times, but with the same kind of thing happening in each world.
It starts off in the fantasy world with little Joey (CUTEE!) with his mum giving him crown as he is playing with his sword. As he is playing, his mum disappears and turns into a potion, the sky then goes dull and dark, leaving little Joey to explore on his own(matching with the lyrics "the darkness can be such a lonely place on your own").
After this, it goes to the real world, with little Joey watching some kids play basketball. These kids then begin to push him around so another kid (little Prince) comes over to help him (cute once again!). During this scene, it goes back to fantasy world with trolls hurting him instead, once again with little Prince helping him beat them.
At this point in fantasy land, little Joey changes into our well know Joey (YAY!) still exploring the forests and coming across and evil witches house (played by his mum). She then hurts Joey with her magical powers, but Joey runs up to her and hugs her tight. As Joey is hugging her, it returns to real life with Joey hugging his mum and putting her into bed because she's drunk. Once she falls asleep he sits on the edge of the bed thinks what he should do.
Back in fantasy land again! Joey comes across Prince again, but older now, locked in a cage in the woods. joey then sneaks over to it but is unable to unlock it. This is when evil Joey, which represents the bad side of life, comes after Joey so he can't let Prince out. As Joey is running from his bad side, he realises that he can just destroy him, which represents him being able to love all of him and forget about all the bad things that have happened in life. As he destroys the bad Joey, it also destroys the lock on the cage, letting Prince out.
Now for the cute and exciting ending that I love the most...
As Joey and Prince are walking away, Prince grabs his hand and stops him from walking any further, they then look into each others eyes and Prince... KISSES HIM!
This is my favourite part because this is the part that reveals his true self (for real). Joey made this video as a way of telling us that he is gay, and, being the creative Joey he is, he did it through a music video, which I think is an amazing way of doing it.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am so so proud of Joey and of how far he's come over the years and I also think he is very brave to post something so personal for the whole world to see.
He has given so many people the courage to come out to their own family and friends and I know how happy and proud he is of himself for doing that and helping so many people become their true selves and let them know that there is nothing wrong with being gay, which there isn't is there?
Why should anyone be treated differently for being attracted to the same gender? So many people use the term "gay" as a insult, and I personally don't think that's right and it shouldn't be a term used as an insult.
Overall, I love this song because it can be so inspirational to thousands of people which I basically think is amazing and that is a great achievement for joey to be extremely proud of. I will also leave a link to Joey's Video here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kcwo_mhyqTw
